Managing Quality Projects – Doing The Right Things Right Silvia Girod, Manager, Corporate Planning Office & Board-Wide Standards; and Rob Caruso, Corporate Planner and Process Specialist - Toronto District School Board The objective of the Managing Quality Projects – “Doing The Right Things Right” seminar is to improve the participant’s competencies in project management and therefore increase their chances of delivering successful quality projects. The workshop focuses on teaching methods and practical tools helpful for Project Managers, Quality Professionals and team members as they work together to manage quality projects of varying scope and complexity.

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to three critical components for driving innovation in the public service: your intrapreneurial mindset; selling ideas; and pursuing the innovation opportunities and mechanisms available to you. Working in groups and individually, participants will engage in exercises that link these concepts and enable them to leverage their own personal innovation potential. |

OPS Employee Survey: From Results to Action Claude André, Project Lead – OPS Employee Engagement Survey, MGS; and Michele Ratsch, Coordinator (Acting), Talent Management - MOHLTC Once Employee Engagement Surveys are complete, the really hard work begins. Organizations that make strides in their engagement levels, drill deep down into the survey results, create a culture of accountability, and translate the survey results into action at the local level. This session will examine how the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services is creating an engaged organizational climate by empowering line ministries to take a fresh look at the analysis of survey results, develop action planning with a cross-section of their employees, and translate the feedback into appropriate and specific actions. This co-presentation will provide the unique insight from both the corporate level and a ministry that has implemented an action plan.

Organizational Excellence by Design Andrew Milivojevich, P.Eng., M.Sc., CQE, CSSBB, MBB To ensure success, an organization must have the following: an inspirational purpose and vision, an effective mission that articulates a plan to realize a future goal, and core values to govern how to conduct themselves along the way. In this contribution, Andrew will discuss concepts that drive organizational changes. He will introduce specific business strategies and show their relationship to business outcomes. Andrew will examine case study results and illustrate how strategies and specific programs were identified for improvement and measure their success. Finally, he will discuss how such strategies support an organizations mission and assure its purpose effectively supports an envisioned future state.

How to Develop Effective Service Standards George Steinke, Transformation, Innovation and Excellence – MGS The OPS is rolling out a service directive to guide ministries in planning and delivering customer-focused services, whether those services are provided to external individuals, businesses, or organizations, or to customers and colleagues within the OPS. Learn about key principles of service delivery and how they can be applied in through a framework of gaining client insight, designing and delivering client-focused services and measuring and improving service delivery. The workshop will include examples of service standards from the OPS and other jurisdictions, and there will an interactive session where participants will develop service standards for their own workplaces.

Team Building for the Work Place Renée Chong, Capital Works Engineer - Town of Markham A strong project team is a key component in delivering a quality project. Continuous improvement to oneself and the work environment, compassion towards others, patience, logistics, planning, adaptation and innovation are just some of the skills applied when work teams come together. This presentation uses an international case study to illustrate and support some of the key messages on the benefits of developing a strong project team. There will also be tips and information on how other groups can plan their own experience to avoid pitfalls and mishaps.
